As a very superstitious (hello Brazilian!) and nature loving person, I love a pagan ritual! And Summer Solstice feels like a special day to celebrate, and as you said βstopβ, or maybe just HOPE?
Loved the suggestions, but really loved βfuck Elonβ the most! Happy pastel colored polo shirts season β¨
In Ireland we have Bealtaine which is on May 1st. It goes back to pre Christian times where Druidism was happening in Ireland and the poor things probably had to wear a woven cape in our damp and rainy weather. But it was Iβm sure a joyous ritual for the 3 days of sun we get. I donβt like the Solstice because itβs a day saying psst: get ready for winter again, no more long lazy days!
This has always been my favorite day of the year and have celebrated with everything from keg parties after college to a Santorini themed lavish DJ dance party a few years ago...such a fun excuse to celebrate the good life!
Ok found your Substack and itβs a true gem!!! Are you sure your Mercury isnβt in genius retrograde? π€£π€£π€£ I was raised a good Southern Christian girl so donβt even understand myself the joke (maybe?!) I just wrote. Canβt wait to follow along.
Todayβs post is equal parts informative, inspiring and entertaining. At 4:50 today I will raise my martini to the Solstice and drive the husband mad until he joins me in writing down 3 ways to be more present this summer. From your list I will be adopting the βemotional write-offs & being more spontaneous. I canβt do the less alcohol thing under the current administration. I just cannot do it. As a menopausal insomniac I already read voraciously. Iβm a fiction fan so maybe I can get into some good non-fiction to try something new. Iβve recently delved into memoirs. I did love Griffin Dunneβs memoir and I have Molly Jong-Fastβs book on my TBR pile. Happy solstice.
The Athletic is great for sobriety. Substack is more addictive than alcohol. How was the Soros wedding?
Good tip, youβre right, and the wedding was wonderful π€

Ha, Iβm happy to share my loves and hates with you π
I am blessed! haha β¨

I had that feeling too! But then I took that psst as a battle cry to make the rest of summer the best I can π€
Oh you had me at YM magazine! Personally I used M magazine because they had better posters to hang all over my wall. Those were the days! Posters on the wall, lava lamps, inflatable furniture, video games/ watching movies (I enjoyed the Uptown Girls reference! β€οΈ), and downloading everything off Limewire (my parents were so mad I ruined computers doing that haha). Today, was so relaxing to close my laptop after work and spend time catching up with friends! Although, Iβm not sure how I would talk after school for 4 or more hours with friends on the phone as a teen! I canβt do it anymoreβ¦ texting is good enough! I think maturing was realizing connections were able to be kept despite separate schedules and responsibilities which youβve spoken about before! Love your words! Btw how great was Mileyβs outfit with BeyoncΓ©?
And yeasssss to Miley and Beyonce. Chills!
Donβt even get me started on the hours I wasted with three-way calling!
Ur great βοΈπ«ΆπΌ
NO YOU ARE π€

God. I miss keg parties!
U look hot!
That pic is 12 years old. But thank you?
βI recently discovered the joy of martinis at the ripe age of 43, which feelsβ¦ dangerous?β
Okay so, I also discovered the joy martinis this year at the age of 38. Iβm considering myself a late bloomer.
And concept of an emotional write off???? I love. I need to save that in my notes. Queen of rumination over here π
βMartinis and emotional write offs.β Should I re-name my Substack?
Itβs definitely a summer vibe!
